Update on road conditions as of May 18, 2009
I was visiting the property on Monday, May 18 to see if we could get in, but there were still snow drifts along the north facing slopes. The main road and the road up Brooks Canyon are dry and you can drive up the entire way. I imagine this is the case for all roads on the south facing slopes. We noticed that the Forest Service still has the gate locked on the road that accesses the West side and Gooseberry Reservoir. I would think if the the weather stays warm that all roads will be accessible in 1-2 weeks.

Update on road conditions as of May 25, 2009
I was talking with a property owner and he indicated that the snow on Nina's Way has melted and the road is accessible all the way. However there were still snow drifts on the roads near the Scott Halton and Sid Halton properties.

Road Conditions
We were able to drive into Sid Halton's old cabin and stayed memorial weekend. You can not go past Sid Halton's old place, the corner above his old cabin between him and the Anderson's has been torn up really bad by the loggers and is barely passable on a four wheeler, the muddy ruts are 12" - 18" deep. The other direction by my lot (lot 37) has snow drifts across the road still. You may be able to drive a four wheel drive SUV to my place but you will not be able to get up to Whiteheads. The loggers have opened this road but in some spots the snow drifts are still 18" deep and 20 feet long. Depending on temperature it may be June 13th before you able to get to the top of Elk Hollow in a car or SUV. I didn't get a chance to check out the other roads because I bought 200 seedlings and got a 100 planted memorial weekend. When I was picking up the seedlings they said the nursery will be closing 6/28/09 unless a private deal they are working on goes through.

Thank you for these updates on the roads. It sounds like we will have some work to do on the roads soon this year.

The road to the west side and Gooseberry reservoir is open and fully accessible.

How are roads for May 2010
Has anyone been up to see how the roads are yet for May of 2010. We were wondering if the snow has melted for brooks canyon yet. We were hoping for Memorial weekend and haven't been able to go up to check.
Thanks

Re: How Are Roads For May 2010
In years past Brooks Canyon road generally has the snow melt quicker since it is on the south facing slope. However, since it has been a rather wet and cold spring, the snow melt process has probably been much slower and the likelihood of the roads being passable is slim. There have been years similar to this one where we haven't been able to get in until late June. But maybe someone can confirm what the conditions are.
Check out this link to a cabin weather cam that is located at about the same elevation in nearby Fairview Lakes: http://www.wallacecabin.com/password (You might be prompted for a username and password, but it is not needed, just click on submit with those categories left blank). Looking at that cabin weather cam as of today there appears to be 6-12 inches of snow.
